FIFA has imposed fines on six national associations including defending champions Argentina following racist incidents involving fans during the June 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The countries affected are Albania, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Albania received the heaviest sanction: 161,500 Swiss francs (about $200,000) for multiple violations during their June 7 qualifier in Serbia, including offensive messages and disruption of the national anthem.
Additionally, Albania must close 20% of its stadium capacity for an upcoming home match.
Argentina has been fined 120,000 Swiss francs (about $149,000) after racist abuse marred their 1-1 draw against Colombia in Buenos Aires.
Midfielder Enzo Fernández was also punished individually receiving a two-match suspension and a 5,000 Swiss franc fine for a dangerous tackle that led to his red card.
