Morocco were crowned champions of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after edging Madagascar 3-2 in a pulsating final Kasarani Stadium in Kenya.
The Atlas Lions, chasing a record third consecutive CHAN crown, were pushed to the limit by a spirited Malagasy side, but their superior composure and clinical finishing proved decisive in an unforgettable finale
The game exploded into life within the opening minutes as Rakotoarisoa stunned the North Africans with a brilliant strike in the 7th minute, giving Madagascar a shock 1-0 lead. The goal silenced Moroccan supporters and raised hopes of a first-ever title for the island nation.
Morocco, however, regrouped quickly. Star midfielder Ayoub El Kaabi restored parity in the 18th minute with a calm finish after neat interplay in the box.
The defending champions grew into the game, and by the 34th minute, they were ahead. A thunderous header from Walid El Karti made it 2-1, sending Moroccan fans into wild celebrations.
Madagascar refused to fold. Their captain Njiva Rakotoharimalala produced a moment of brilliance in the 56th minute, rifling home from the edge of the box to level at 2-2.

With the game seemingly drifting towards extra time, Morocco struck the killer blow. Substitute forward Soufiane Rahimi made the difference, pouncing on a loose ball in the 78th minute to slot home the winning goal his fourth of the tournament.
