Abdul Jabar Adama has etched his name in history as the first Nigerian swimmer to win a medal at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships.

Competing in Romania, the 17-year-old clinched silver in the men’s 50m Butterfly, finishing in 23.64s. Great Britain’s Dean Fearn claimed gold with a time of 23.54s.

Adama’s achievement was even more remarkable as he shattered two Nigerian national records on his way to the podium. Having entered the competition with a national record of 23.81s, he lowered it to 23.61s during the preliminaries, before clocking 23.48s in the semi-finals.

His feat not only secured Nigeria’s first global medal in swimming but also underscored his rising status as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.
