Rangers have received a major boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Club Brugge, as manager Russell Martin confirmed that Cyriel Dessers’ injury is not as serious as first feared.

The Nigerian striker, 30, was forced off during Rangers’ defeat to Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena after appearing to twist his knee and ankle in a worrying incident.

However, Martin has offered encouraging news on the Super Eagles forward’s fitness.

“Cyriel’s isn’t as bad as everyone feared. Tomorrow will be too early, but we’re really hopeful he can be involved on Tuesday,” the Rangers boss told the BBC.

“Everyone feared the worst, the way he went off, but it’s just a small issue  nowhere near as bad as it could’ve been. It’s still stiff and sore, but the staff will work really hard to give him every chance of being fit for Tuesday.”
