Luis Díaz enjoyed a dream start to life at Bayern Munich, scoring on his debut as the Bundesliga champions edged Stuttgart 2-1 to lift the German Supercup on Saturday.

Harry Kane put Bayern in front after 18 minutes, pouncing when the ball fell kindly for him to drive a low finish inside the left post. Bayern controlled much of the first half, though Stuttgart threatened through Nick Woltemade, whose effort drew a sharp save from Manuel Neuer. Woltemade, notably, has been linked with a summer move to Bayern, though the clubs remain apart on a transfer fee.

Díaz, signed from Liverpool last month in Bayern’s marquee deal of the offseason, struck the decisive goal in the 77th minute. His effort came moments after Neuer produced a brilliant reflex stop to deny Jamie Leweling, who had briefly left the pitch for treatment following a collision with Sacha Boey.

Leweling recovered to head home Stuttgart’s consolation in stoppage time, but it was not enough to prevent Bayern from claiming their first silverware of the season.

This marks the fourth consecutive year the Supercup has been scheduled alongside the opening round of the German Cup, forcing both clubs to reschedule their fixtures. Stuttgart will begin their Cup defense away to Eintracht Braunschweig on August 26, while Bayern face third-tier Wehen Wiesbaden the following day.
