Nigeria will be without defender Semi Ajayi for next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa after the Hull City man picked up a hamstring injury.
Ajayi sustained the injury during Hull City’s Championship clash with Coventry City last weekend and was rested for the Tigers’ Carabao Cup loss to Wrexham United in midweek as a precaution.
Subsequent scans confirmed further damage, ruling the 31-year-old out for four to six weeks, according to Hull Daily Mail.
The centre-back, who struggled with similar injuries last season, was limited to just 15 appearances in his final campaign with West Bromwich Albion.
Nigeria will host Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, September 6, before traveling to Bloemfontein to face South Africa three days later at the Toyota Stadium.
