Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa.
The intense semi-final clash took place on Tuesday at the Larbi Zauoli Stadium.
South Africa entered the match full of confidence, having cruised past Senegal in the quarter-finals. However, it was Nigeria who struck first, with Rasheedat Ajibade converting a penalty midway through the first half.
Banyana Banyana responded just before halftime, as Linda Motlhalo leveled the score from the spot after Osinachi Ohale was penalized for a foul in the box.
In stoppage time, Michelle Alozie emerged as the hero for the Super Falcons, firing home the winning goal to seal a place in the final for the nine-time African champions.
