Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku has officially received his Ghanaian passport during a visit to the West African country.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Belgium to Ghanaian parents, was presented with the passport by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during his holiday in the country.

While enjoying his offseason break after a demanding campaign with Manchester City, Doku visited several cultural and historical sites including the Cape Coast Castle and the Manhyia Palace. However, it was the symbolic passport presentation that drew the most attention.

Though Doku previously turned down an opportunity to represent the Black Stars in favor of Belgium, he has always acknowledged his Ghanaian heritage. With the new development, his ties to Ghana are now officially recognized.

“This was the wish of Jeremy and his family,” Minister Ablakwa stated on X. “He now holds dual nationality.”
