Nigeria’s Super Falcons were denied a perfect group stage run at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after being held to a goalless draw by a resilient Algerian side on Sunday.
Buoyed by back-to-back wins over Tunisia and Botswana, the Falcons came into the game brimming with confidence. However, they struggled to break down Algeria’s disciplined defense despite dominating possession and registering over 20 shots—only one of which was on target.
Head coach Justin Madugu made tactical changes, introducing Rinsola Babajide and Ijeoma Ijamilusi in a bid to spark the attack, but the substitutions failed to yield a breakthrough.
Despite the stalemate, Nigeria still topped Group B with 7 points, while Algeria secured second place with 5 points to also advance to the knockout stage.
