Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured a guaranteed $200,000 in prize money following their narrow 1-0 win over Botswana on Thursday night in Casablanca, Morocco, at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The hard-fought victory, sealed by a late goal, saw the Falcons become the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals, with one group game still to play. It also makes them the only side so far to record back-to-back wins in the group stage.
Thanks to CAF’s newly enhanced prize structure, each of the four teams advancing to the quarter-finals is assured a minimum of $200,000. The increment reflects CAF’s commitment to elevating women’s football across the continent and rewarding top performances.
If the Falcons progress beyond the quarter-finals but do not reach the final, they will receive an additional $150,000 as third-place finishers. However, reaching the final as runners-up would boost their prize earnings to $500,000.
