Nigeria’s Super Falcons kicked off their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign on a high with a convincing 3-0 win over Tunisia.
The nine-time African champions asserted their dominance from the opening whistle, controlling possession and forcing the North Africans on the back foot.
It didn’t take long for Nigeria’s pressure to pay off, as US-based star Asisat Oshoala fired home the opener in the 4th minute to give the Super Falcons an early lead.
Tunisia responded positively after conceding, applying pressure in search of an equalizer, but the Nigerian defence held firm. Just before halftime, Rinsola Babajide doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 44th minute, sending the Super Falcons into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The Tunisians continued to battle after the restart, but the experienced Super Falcons remained resolute. In the 83rd minute, Chinwendu Ihezuo sealed the win with Nigeria’s third goal, putting the result beyond doubt and securing all three points for the defending champions.
