Super Eagles assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong, has reflected on his proudest moment representing Nigeria.

The Netherlands-born defender, who made his senior debut for Nigeria nearly a decade ago, has been part of several historic moments with the national team.

“It’s hard to choose just one because there have been so many,” Ekong told Olamide Abe. “Every time I hear the national anthem, I feel an indescribable sense of pride.”

“But if I have to pick, playing at the World Cup was special. I was only 24 at the time, and it was the biggest stage in football.”

Ekong also highlighted his Olympic experience and participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

“The Olympics was incredible as well I was 21 then. I’ve also played in three AFCON tournaments. Each of those moments has been unique and unforgettable.”

The experienced centre-back is expected to be part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
