Barcelona will make their long-awaited return to the revamped Camp Nou on August 10 for a friendly match, marking the partial reopening of their historic stadium after years of extensive renovation.
The match, part of the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy, will be the first at Camp Nou since major construction work began to expand and modernise the venue, the club confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
However, the return marks only a partial opening, with significant work still ongoing. This includes the completion of the new third tier, the dual VIP ring, installation of the stadium roof, interior renovations, and development of the surrounding area.
While Barcelona has yet to announce the available capacity, local reports suggest that around 35,000 fans will be able to attend the fixture.
“Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,” the club said.
The Spanish champions have also requested to play their first three La Liga matches of the new season away from home to allow additional time for construction progress.
The ambitious “Espai Barça” project, which began in 2023, has faced several delays but is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026. Once finished, Camp Nou will boast a capacity of 105,000, making it one of the largest stadiums in Europe.
