With just weeks to go before the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Echegini is counting down the days to her debut in the prestigious tournament.
The Paris Saint-Germain Féminine star has already featured for Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympics, but WAFCON remains uncharted territory for the dynamic midfielder.
Speaking to CAF media, Echegini expressed her excitement and readiness to finally take part in the continental showpiece.
“It’s very special. I’ve played in major international competitions, but I haven’t had the chance to feature in a WAFCON yet,” she said.
“This will be my first time, and I’m really excited. I watched the last edition two years ago and thought, ‘One day, it’ll be my turn.’ Now that time has come.
“It’s a different atmosphere, a different energy. Representing my country on African soil is a huge honor.
“The Women’s AFCON is about history, culture, and emotion. I can’t wait to experience it from within.”
The Super Falcons have been drawn in a group alongside Botswana, Algeria, and Tunisia as they set their sights on another continental title.
