Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured the bronze medal at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, overcoming the host nation in a dramatic penalty shootout.
The match began in Egypt’s favor, with the home side opening the scoring just two minutes in. A long ball from captain Ahmed Khaled caught the Nigerian defense off guard, allowing Mahmoud Labib to make a run down the left and set up Omar Osama Hassan, who calmly slotted the ball home at the far post.

Nigeria responded early in the second half. A poor pass from Khaled was intercepted, and Divine Oliseh quickly fed Bidemi Amole on the right wing. Amole made no mistake, finishing past goalkeeper Ahmed Wahba to level the score at 1-1.
The game remained deadlocked through regular time, leading to a penalty shootout where the Flying Eagles prevailed 4-1. The result mirrors Nigeria’s performance in the previous edition, where they also claimed third place.
Host nation Egypt ended the tournament without a medal.
