Remo Stars took a massive step towards clinching their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shooting Stars in the South West Derby played in Ibadan.

Alex Oyowah netted the decisive goal in the 30th minute, securing the Sky Blue Stars’ fifth away win of the season and keeping them in pole position for the title. Remo Stars could seal the championship if they defeat Nasarawa United in their next fixture and Rivers United falter against Kano Pillars.

Elsewhere, Ikorodu City earned a valuable away point in Maiduguri after playing out a 1-1 draw with El-Kanemi Warriors. Plateau United edged Akwa United 1-0, while Heartland FC and Kwara United played to a goalless draw in a rain-affected game in Owerri.

Rivers United kept their slim title hopes alive with a 1-0 home win over Sunshine Stars in Port Harcourt. Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance and Niger Tornadoes were both held to 1-1 draws at home by Nasarawa United and Bayelsa United, respectively.

Saturday’s fixtures saw Rangers International crush already relegated Lobi Stars 4-2 in an away thriller. Enyimba claimed a 2-1 win over Kano Pillars, and Katsina United lit up the weekend with a dominant 5-1 thrashing of Abia Warriors.
