Zubairu names 24-man squad for U20 AFCON in Egypt

Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has unveiled a 24-man squad for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off in Egypt in 10 days.

Among the key players named are first-choice goalkeeper Ifeanyi Ebenezer Harcourt, team captain and defender Daniel Bameyi, midfielder Sulaiman Alabi Jojo, and striker Kparobo Nathaniel Arierhi.

Other notable call-ups include defenders Adamu Maigari and Emmanuel Chukwu (who plies his trade in Germany), midfielders Caleb Ochedikwu (based in Croatia) and Simon Cletus, as well as forwards Clinton Jephta, Divine Oliseh, and Precious Benjamin (also based in Germany).

The seven-time African champions and two-time FIFA U20 World Cup runners-up are set to leave Nigeria for Egypt on Sunday. They will play a couple of warm-up matches ahead of their Group B opener against Tunisia on Thursday, May 1st, in Cairo.

Following the Tunisia clash, the Flying Eagles will take on Morocco three days later, also in Cairo, before rounding off the group stage with a match against Kenya on Wednesday, May 7th. The top four teams in the tournament will qualify to represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, scheduled for September 27th to October 19th.
