Nigerian-eligible forward Edna Imade is emerging as one of the standout players in Spain this season.
The Granada Feminino striker is currently the second-highest scorer in Liga F, with 12 goals, playing a key role in her team’s impressive campaign.
Born in Morocco to Nigerian parents, Edna moved to Carmona, Spain, at a young age. She began her football journey with the local team before trying futsal with Santa Ana. She later joined AD Nervión, moved to Málaga, and eventually played for Cacereño.
During her two-season stint (2021-23) in Extremadura, the Nigerian Football Federation reached out to inquire about her international status. However, Edna expressed her preference for representing Spain.
Holding both Spanish and Nigerian nationalities, she remains uncertain about her final decision.
“I’m 50-50 because Spain is where I grew up, where I was educated, but my mother and family are Nigerian,” she admitted.
Her inclusion in Spain’s preliminary squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Belgium and England has led her to put discussions with the Nigerian federation on hold.
