Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team head coach, Bankole Olowookere, has emphasized that their World Cup qualifier against South Africa is far from decided.

The Flamingos secured a commanding 3-1 away victory over Bantwana in the first leg of their U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Pretoria. However, Olowookere remains cautious, acknowledging that South Africa still has a fighting chance.

“We know very well that it’s never over until it’s truly over. It would be a mistake to think otherwise,” he stated.

“Yes, we won 3-1 away in South Africa, but the tie is still open. That mindset has shaped our preparations since returning from Pretoria.”

“My coaching staff and I have been working on strengthening the team’s mentality, constantly reminding the girls that focus is key.”

“We cannot afford any lapse in concentration. Our goal is to win on Saturday and secure our spot in the final qualifying round,” he added.

The decisive match is set to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
