Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen, has clarified that he had no role in selecting the players for the upcoming World Cup qualifier.
Eric Sekou Chelle finalized the 23-man squad for the matches, and Eguavoen emphasized that the decision was entirely Chelle’s.
“I want Nigerians to understand something. I’ve been a technical director for a few years, and during FIFA workshops, I’ve asked many questions. They made it clear that the senior national team coach has the final say on player selection,” Eguavoen told SuperSport.
“We can discuss, but we cannot interfere. If the coach says no, then it’s no.”
“Eric Chelle took his time to prepare this list, and he has the final say,” he added.
