The Scottish club expressed its devastation over the incident, which occurred overnight before the last-16 first-leg tie against the Turkish side.

In a statement on its website, Rangers FC said:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our supporters in a road traffic accident overnight in Istanbul. Our immediate thoughts are with their family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

We remain in close contact with both the Turkish and British authorities regarding this tragic incident.”*
