Spanish footballer Nico Hidalgo has passed away at the age of 32 after a long battle with lung cancer.

His former clubs confirmed the heartbreaking news on Saturday.

Hidalgo began his career with Motril, making his senior debut in 2010 before joining Granada B in 2012. In 2014, he signed with Juventus but never featured for the first team, instead returning to Granada on loan.

He later had a loan spell at Cádiz, eventually signing permanently in 2017. His career also included stints with Racing Santander and Extremadura.

Hidalgo retired in 2022, a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

“With Nico’s departure, we not only lose a great footballer but also a remarkable person. His impact will always be remembered by teammates, coaches, staff, directors, and fans,” Granada said in a statement.

“We will never forget your smile and joy. Your fight is our inspiration. Rest in peace,” Cádiz wrote on X.
