Fulham manager Marco Silva has explained why Nigerian duo Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi started on the bench in their Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Both players have been regular starters this season, making their omission from the starting lineup on Tuesday surprising. However, speaking to Fulham’s official website after the match, Silva revealed that the decision was part of his strategy to freshen up the squad following a lackluster performance in their previous game.

“We knew we were going to need some fresh legs,” Silva said. “Saturday’s game was a tough one for us, and our performance wasn’t at its best. I knew this match would demand more energy, so we made some changes.”

“Players like Alex Iwobi, Robinson, and Calvin Bassey—who have played the most minutes for us—were given a rest.”

Iwobi has been one of Fulham’s standout performers this season, while Bassey has solidified his place in the Cottagers’ defense since his move from Ajax.
