With the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations fast approaching, Asisat Oshoala, FC Barcelona’s star forward, has shared her thoughts and expectations for the upcoming tournament.

A vital player for the Super Falcons, Oshoala is poised to lead the team in their quest for a 12th continental title.

In a recent X space event hosted by Kenneth Omeruo, the tall striker emphasized her commitment to growth, particularly looking ahead to 2025. “We have to focus on 2025 and grab every opportunity to return to our winning ways and bring home the trophies like we always do,” Oshoala remarked.

Reflecting on recent performances, including a challenging Olympics campaign where the team failed to progress past the group stage, Oshoala acknowledged the strong competition but emphasized the team’s resilience. “Despite the tough competition, we gave a good account of ourselves,” she said. “We’re seeing a lot of young talent coming through from the local league, and our foreign-based players are starting to gel better as a team.”

Looking forward, Oshoala is optimistic about the future. “2025 will be a stronger year for us. The mentality has shifted; everyone is determined to win, and there’s healthy competition for places, with no automatic spots. We’ve been showing good performances recently, and if we maintain this momentum, WAFCON will be a successful tournament for us,” she added.

The 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco from July 5 to 26.
