The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially named Kim Lars Björkegren as the new head coach of the Black Queens, the national women’s football team.
Björkegren, a seasoned coach with nearly two decades of experience, takes over from Nora Nuptle, whose contract with the GFA ended in December 2024.
The GFA confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, January 14, announcing Björkegren as the new leader of the team.
Björkegren’s career began as a player at his hometown club in Ljungsbro, Sweden, before moving to Allsvenskan side Atvidabergs FF. However, an injury at the age of 22 led to his early retirement, prompting him to transition into coaching.
With a UEFA A coaching license, Björkegren has enjoyed a successful coaching career both domestically and internationally. His accomplishments include winning the league title with Apollon Ladies in Cyprus and securing the Damallsvenskan championship with Linköpings FC in Sweden. Notably, he was awarded Coach of the Year in Cyprus for his exceptional work during the 2020-2021 season.
