Amaju Pinnick, the former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, has warned that the Super Eagles missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be a disaster that must be avoided at all costs.
Currently, the three-time African champions are in a difficult position in the World Cup qualifiers, having earned only three points from four matches.
“It would be an anomaly for Nigeria not to be in the US,” Pinnick said. “Consider this: Nigerians make up the largest group of educated immigrants in the US. The idea of missing out is something I can’t even fathom. I still recall how devastated I felt when Nigeria failed to qualify for the last World Cup.”
Pinnick also voiced his support for the process leading to the appointment of Coach Eric, encouraging Nigerians to back the decision.
“The decision wasn’t made in isolation,” he explained. “The Sports Commission, which oversees the activities of the Nigeria Football Federation, was involved. I’m confident they endorsed it.”
