Barely 2 weeks to the final round of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier, Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi is certain to miss the games.

The lanky defender played a part in the last game against Libya and has played many games for his club West Brom.

Ajayi was in action last weekend against Cardiff where he sustained an hamstring injury.

The manager of the team Carlos Corberan on Thursday evening confirmed that Ajayi will be out for a long time.

“Semi, unfortunately, has suffered a more difficult injury. It was an action which was an accident. In this action, he has broken his muscle in two parts,” the gaffer told the club’s official website.

“The best way to manage this injury is with surgery because surgery helps reduce the risk of suffering this type of injury again.

There are injuries which affect the tendon in specific areas where you have to have surgery. The surgery delays things by around two weeks, but it also reduces the risk of the injury reoccurring.

“Returning in about 16 weeks is the approximate time when you have this type of surgery. ”

Super Eagles will face Benin in the day 5 and Rwanda in the day 6 of the qualifier.
