The Confederation of African Football has unveiled the list of the nominees for the 2024 award and it was a mixed feeling for Nigeria.

According to the list released on Thursday evening, Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman expectedly made the list for the player of the year alongside compatriots William Troost Ekong.

Surprisingly, Victor Boniface failed to make the cut despite winning a double trophy with the German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made the list for the goalkeeper of the year after a decent performance for the Super Eagles at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles was also nominated for the team of the year after finishing second behind Ivory Coast at the 2023 AFCON.

Lookman and Ekong will compete with Simon Adingra, Chancel Mbemba, Achraf Hakimi and 5 other players for the award.

The winner will be announced in December in Marrakech Morocco.
