“Hello everyone, I’m letting you know that I’m going to retire from professional tennis,” Nadal said.
“The reality is that it has been difficult for me the last few years, especially the last two years. I don’t think I have been able to play without restrictions lately. This is obviously a difficult decision and it has taken me a while to come to this decision.
“But everything in life has a beginning and an end. And I think this is the right time to put an end to my career. A career that has been longer and more successful than I could have ever imagined.
“I am very happy that the final round of the Davis Cup will be my last tournament, a tournament where I can represent my country. Then the circle will be complete, because one of my first highlights as a professional tennis player was winning the Davis Cup final in 2004 in Seville.
Nadal won his first Grand Slam in 2005 in the final of Roland Garros when he defeated the Argentine Mariano Puerta.
Nadal won the tournament in Paris a total of fourteen times. He is therefore the record holder.
His last Grand Slam victory was Roland Garros in 2022.
