Arsenal made a winning start to the 2026/2027 English Premier League season, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City on Friday.
The champions dominated proceedings, with Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard all getting on the scoresheet to seal an emphatic opening-day victory.
However, there was a major shock on Saturday as another newly promoted side, Hull City, stunned Manchester United 2-0.
Nigerian international Semi Ajayi opened the scoring for Hull City before Mendy added a second goal to complete a memorable victory over the Red Devils.
Elsewhere, Everton began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry scored the goals for the Toffees.
Ipswich Town also secured a 2-1 victory over Sunderland, with Emerson and Clarke finding the net for the home side, while Nilson scored Sunderland’s only goal.
Leeds United recorded an impressive away victory against Nottingham Forest, with Anton Stach scoring the only goal of the encounter.
The opening weekend has already produced a mixture of expected results and major surprises, with Hull City’s victory over Manchester United emerging as one of the biggest talking points of the opening round.
