Former Barcelona midfielder and coach Xavi Hernandez has expressed his desire to take charge of a national team, revealing that he is eager to coach at major international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Spanish football legend said international management would provide a better balance between his professional career and family life compared to club football.
Speaking about his future ambitions, Xavi admitted he is motivated by the prospect of leading a country at global and continental competitions.
“I’m saying it openly, I want to coach a national team! It would suit me. A club doesn’t give me as much time with my family. I’m motivated to coach in a World Cup, EUROs, AFCON or Asian Cup,” Xavi said.
The former Barcelona and Spain star has been without a coaching role since leaving the Catalan giants and is now looking toward international football as the next chapter of his managerial career.
Xavi’s comments have sparked speculation about which national team could secure the services of the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner, whose coaching ambitions now include the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations.
