Rivers United players involved in road accident ahead of Federation Cup clash

Rivers United Football Club has confirmed that its team contingent was involved in a road traffic accident on Thursday while traveling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United.

According to a statement released by the club, the incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt shortly after the team departed from its camp.

The club disclosed that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident. However, no fatalities or life-threatening injuries were recorded.

“All affected individuals are currently receiving appropriate medical attention and are in stable condition,” the statement read.

Rivers United assured supporters and stakeholders that the safety, health, and well-being of its players and officials remain the club’s top priority.

The club’s medical team is reportedly monitoring those involved, while management continues to assess the situation and make necessary arrangements following the incident.
