Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has handed a late invitation to 21-year-old Genk defender Christian Akpan ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
Akpan, who currently plays for Belgian side KRC Genk, has been rewarded for his impressive performances with a first call-up to the senior national team.
The young defender joins the Super Eagles camp as Chelle continues to assess available options and strengthen his squad ahead of future competitive engagements.
Akpan’s inclusion is expected to provide additional depth in the defensive department as Nigeria prepares to face Poland and Portugal in two high-profile friendly matches scheduled for this month.
The invitation marks a significant milestone in the defender’s career and presents him with an opportunity to stake a claim for a regular place in the Super Eagles setup.
Nigeria’s friendly encounters against Poland and Portugal will serve as important preparation matches for the three-time African champions as Chelle continues to build his team for upcoming international assignments.
