World Athletics has officially released the qualification system and entry standards for the 2027 World Athletics Championships scheduled to hold in Beijing, China.
The global athletics governing body also confirmed additional qualification pathways for athletes aiming to compete at the championships beyond achieving the automatic entry standards.
According to the qualification system approved by the World Athletics Council, athletes can secure places for Beijing 2027 through entry standards, world rankings positions, wildcard entries and designated competition performances.
World Athletics stated that the qualification model is designed to balance direct qualification with the world ranking system, ensuring the best athletes globally earn places at the championships.
Relay qualification will also play a major role, with top-performing nations from the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone already earning slots for Beijing 2027. The top 12 teams in each relay event from the competition qualified automatically for the championships.
In addition, reigning world champions and selected continental champions are expected to receive automatic qualification spots, regardless of whether they meet the standard during the qualification window.
The 2027 World Athletics Championships will take place in Beijing from September 11 to September 19, marking the second time the Chinese capital will host the prestigious event after previously staging it in 2015.
