Officials from FIFA led by Secretary General Mattias Grafström met with delegates of the Football Federation of Iran in Istanbul to reassure them over the country’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The high-level meeting was held amid growing concerns surrounding Iran’s involvement in the tournament following recent geopolitical tensions and travel-related issues involving Iranian officials.

During the discussions, FIFA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all qualified nations participate smoothly in the tournament scheduled to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Grafström described the meeting as positive and constructive, stressing that FIFA is working closely with the Iranian federation to guarantee a seamless experience for Team Melli at the World Cup.

Iran Football Federation president Mehdi Taj also expressed satisfaction with the talks, stating that both parties discussed operational concerns and shared a joint commitment towards ensuring Iran’s successful participation at the Mundial.

Iran have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and are expected to play their group stage matches in the United States.
