Chelsea have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior following a run of five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring, in a decision taken after internal discussions involving the club’s sporting leadership.

The meeting, held in the aftermath of the defeat to Brighton, concluded that an immediate managerial change was necessary as Chelsea look to salvage their season, with an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United approaching.

In an official statement, the club said Rosenior had maintained “the highest integrity and professionalism” since his mid-season appointment, adding: “This has not been an easy decision.”

Players have already been informed of the decision. Assistant coach Calum McFarlane will take temporary charge of the first team as interim head coach until the end of the season.

While Chelsea’s hierarchy had initially hoped to assess Rosenior over a longer period, the club ultimately moved on due to deteriorating results and performances in recent weeks, despite remaining ambitions in European competition and domestic cup success.

Club officials acknowledged the original intention was to judge Rosenior over a longer timeframe, but said the current situation required urgent action to stabilise results.
