The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed veteran Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

The experienced manager will take charge immediately and lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.24ce6c

Queiroz, 73, brings a wealth of international pedigree to the role.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United assistant coach has managed national teams including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, and most recently Oman.

He has guided sides to multiple FIFA World Cups and is renowned for his tactical discipline, organizational skills, and ability to maximize squad potential under pressure.

The appointment comes after the GFA parted ways with previous coach Otto Addo following a string of disappointing results.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers reaching a critical stage and the tournament itself on the horizon, the association moved swiftly to secure a coach with proven World Cup experience.

“Queiroz’s track record speaks for itself,” a GFA statement noted.

“His vast knowledge of international football and previous success with African and World Cup campaigns make him the ideal leader to guide the Black Stars toward a strong showing in 2026.”

Queiroz is expected to arrive in Ghana in the coming days to begin preparations, assess the current squad, and begin building his technical team.

His first tasks will likely include finalizing qualification if needed and shaping the team for the global stage.
