Bendel Insurance Football Club has formally apologised to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) over the unsavoury incidents that occurred during their Matchday 32 clash against Plateau United on March 28 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
In a statement released by the club, management expressed deep regret over the events and strongly condemned the conduct of head coach Kennedy Boboye, describing the incident as “ugly and unfortunate.”
The club further issued a stern caution to Coach Boboye and his technical crew, warning them against any repeat of such behaviour.
“After a careful review of the circumstances and the consequences of the incident, the management expressed disgust and unequivocally condemned the actions of head coach Kennedy Boboye,” the statement read.
“The management has cautioned Coach Kennedy Boboye and his crew against any repeat of such actions. We insist that such behaviours will not be tolerated, as Bendel Insurance FC remains a disciplined and law-abiding club.”
The club also advised all players, coaches, and officials to avoid heated arguments with match officials in future matches, noting that such conduct only attracts sanctions and punishments.
Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance will host Abia Warriors this Saturday behind closed doors as they serve the first of a three-match ban without spectators at their home ground.
The club’s management has urged supporters to stay away from the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium during this period.
