Egypt will officially host the African Games in 2027, marking the country’s return as host after 36 years.
The North African nation last staged the continental multi-sport event in 1991, and preparations are already underway in Cairo to welcome athletes from across the continent for the 14th edition of the Games.
Hosting the competition is seen as part of Egypt’s broader ambition to strengthen its position on the global sporting stage.
In addition to staging the 2027 African Games, Egypt is planning to establish its first-ever national cricket governing body, the Egypt Cricket Federation, as part of efforts to expand its sports portfolio.
The move is also connected to the country’s long-term ambition to bid for the Summer Olympic Games in 2036 and 2040.
If successful, Egypt hopes to become the first African country to host the Olympic Games, a milestone that would mark a historic moment for sports development on the continent.
