Five-time world champions Brazil national football team have been dealt a major blow ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with star forward Rodrygo ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
The Real Madrid attacker was confirmed injured on Tuesday after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Medical reports indicate that the winger will undergo surgery in the coming days, effectively ending his chances of featuring at the global showpiece.
Rodrygo has been a key figure for both club and country in recent seasons, contributing crucial goals and assists in major competitions.
His absence represents a significant setback for Brazil as they intensify preparations for the Mundial.
Meanwhile, world football governing body FIFA has officially commenced the 100-day countdown to the tournament. With exactly 100 days remaining, activities marking the approach of the competition have begun across host cities.
The tournament will be staged across three North American nations Canada, Mexico and the United States in what is expected to be one of the biggest editions in the competition’s history.
Brazil, who boast five World Cup titles, will now have to adjust their tactical plans as they aim to challenge for a record-extending sixth crown without one of their attacking talismans.
