With barely four months to the commencement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States, selected African referees have intensified their preparations for the global showpiece.

The contingent, drawn from different countries across the continent, has officially begun a comprehensive training programme designed to meet the standards set by world football governing body FIFA.

Led by reigning Referee of the Year Omar Artan, the officials have successfully completed all mandatory pre-tournament requirements.

The exercises carried out include all required technical and theoretical tests, official photoshoots, detailed medical examinations, and rigorous physical fitness assessments aimed at ensuring peak performance during the tournament.

The early commencement of preparations underscores Africa’s commitment to delivering top-level officiating at the Mundial, as the selected referees look to represent the continent with distinction on football’s biggest stage.
