President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has dismissed reports suggesting that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be postponed.
Speaking at the CAF General Assembly, Motsepe made it clear that preparations for the 2027 edition remain on course, insisting there are no plans to alter the tournament schedule.
“There is no postponement of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations,” Motsepe stated, reiterating CAF’s commitment to delivering the competition as planned.
The CAF President also reaffirmed the Confederation’s decision to switch to a four-year cycle starting from 2028, aligning the continental showpiece with a more structured calendar aimed at improving organization and commercial growth.
In addition, Motsepe confirmed that the Nations League format will continue, with the competition set to be held every two years across CAF’s geographic zones.
The initiative, according to CAF, is designed to increase competitive matches for member associations while strengthening football development at regional levels.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is expected to be co-hosted by East African nations, with preparations already underway as CAF continues to fine-tune its competition calendar and development programs across the continent.
