The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be hosted in Morocco, with the tournament set to proceed as originally planned.
CAF dismissed any speculation surrounding a possible change of venue, reiterating that preparations remain firmly on course for the continental showpiece in North Africa.
A total of 16 teams will compete for the coveted title, continuing the expanded format introduced in recent editions.
The competition is expected to showcase the rapid growth of women’s football across the continent.
Beyond continental glory, the stakes are significantly higher, as the four semi-finalists will automatically qualify to represent Africa at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in Brazil.
Morocco previously hosted the 2024 edition of the tournament to widespread acclaim, and CAF’s confirmation ensures continuity as the country prepares once again to stage Africa’s premier women’s football competition in 2026.
