The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has handed Wikki Tourists a series of stern sanctions following multiple breaches of league rules during their weekend clash with Katsina United.

The club was found culpable for failing to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorized persons access to restricted areas.

Fans reportedly engaged in unsporting behavior, throwing dangerous objects including stones onto the pitch, and harassing match officials and members of the visiting team.

The incidents resulted in injuries, medical expenses, and the loss of the referee’s whistle.

As part of the sanctions, Wikki Tourists have been fined:

₦2 million for inadequate security.

₦1.5 million for compensatory and medical costs, including ₦250,000 for the lost referee’s whistle, ₦250,000 for his treatment, and ₦500,000 each for injured medical personnel and a Katsina United official.

₦1 million for conduct bringing the game into disrepute.

₦1 million for throwing objects onto the pitch.

₦2 million for detaining officials and the away team after the match, which caused an 18-minute delay.

In addition to the fines, the league has ordered Wikki Tourists to play their home games in Jos indefinitely. The club has 48 hours to file an appeal against the sanctions.

The NPFL’s decisive action sends a clear message about maintaining safety, fair play, and respect for officials in the league.
