FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has officially stepped down from his position in compliance with Article 42.f of the club’s statutes.
Laporta’s resignation is to make him eligible to contest in the forthcoming Board of Directors elections, scheduled to hold on 15 March.
The decision was formally ratified at the ordinary meeting of the Board of Directors held on Monday, during which the club also officially published the call for the elections.
Under the club’s statutes, a sitting president must vacate office before standing as a candidate in board elections, a regulation Laporta has now complied with in order to seek a renewed mandate.
Further details on the election process and potential candidates are expected to be communicated by the club in the coming days.
