Ademola Lookman enjoyed a dream debut for Atletico Madrid, scoring a goal and providing an assist as Diego Simeone’s side cruised to a dominant 5–0 victory over Real Betis in their Copa del Rey quarter-final clash on Thursday.

The Nigerian forward only completed his move from Serie A outfit Atalanta earlier in the winter transfer window, but was immediately trusted with a starting role by Simeone for the knockout encounter.

Lookman announced himself in style, netting Atletico’s third goal in the 37th minute after latching onto a counter-attacking pass, gliding past two defenders inside the box and drilling a composed finish beyond the goalkeeper.

He later turned provider in the 67th minute, setting up Antoine Griezmann for Atletico’s fourth goal with a well-timed assist.

Earlier, David Hancko had opened the scoring in the 12th minute, while Giuliano Simeone doubled the advantage in the 30th minute.

Thiago Almada rounded off the emphatic win with the fifth goal seven minutes from time.

Atletico Madrid will now await their semi-final opponents, with Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao all in the mix.

The semi-final draw is scheduled for Friday, 6 February 2026, at the RFEF headquarters. The first legs will be played in February 2026, with the return fixtures set for March 2026.
