Officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will arrive in Nigeria on Monday for an inspection tour of facilities proposed to host the Final Phase of this year’s CAF African Schools Football Championship.

Launched four years ago, the CAF African Schools Football Championship is an annual U15 competition designed to drive grassroots football development and promote education across Africa.

The programme is backed by a $10 million investment from the Motsepe Foundation, owned by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, and features zonal qualifiers that culminate in a continental final tournament.

The championship is contested by both boys’ and girls’ teams. The 2024 finals, held in Accra, Ghana, saw Tanzania’s boys and Ghana’s girls emerge as champions.

Beyond the competition, winners benefit from up to $300,000 in infrastructural development, while the tournament also operates in partnership with global institutions such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote health education.

The CAF delegation includes Omar Amr (Safeguarding), Fatima Elmissaoui (ASFC Officer), Herve Dassoundo (Marketing & Branding), Mahmoud Amer (Travel/Logistics), Diabate Zakarhiya (Safety & Security), Hend Thabet (Travel & Accommodation), Joshua Knipp (ASFC Competition), alongside the Executive Director of WAFU B, Philippe Tchere.

They are scheduled to inspect proposed competition and ancillary venues in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu on Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

The inspection will focus on the Remo Stars Stadium and training pitches in Ikenne-Remo, the FC Ebedei Stadium and training facilities in Sagamu, as well as hospitals and hotel infrastructure within both towns.
