Paris Saint-Germain Féminine have turned down an approach from Chelsea Women for Nigerian international midfielder Jennifer Echegini, as the French champions move to retain the Super Falcons star during the ongoing January transfer window.
Sources close to the negotiations confirmed that Chelsea made a formal enquiry for the highly-rated midfielder, but PSG swiftly rejected the proposal, making it clear they are not open to any mid-season departure.
The French giants view Echegini as a key part of their sporting project and are keen to maintain squad stability as they continue their push for domestic and European success.
With the winter transfer window in England set to close on February 3, Chelsea now face a race against time if they are to revive their interest, although PSG’s firm stance suggests a deal is unlikely this month.
Echegini, who has been one of the standout performers for club and country, remains under contract in Paris and is expected to stay put as PSG focus on their title ambitions.
