Super Eagles defender Ogbu suffers injury setback

Nigerian centre-back Igoh Ogbu is facing another spell on the sidelines after aggravating a hamstring injury during Slavia Prague’s 4–1 defeat to Pafos on Wednesday night.

The setback compounds what has been a frustrating campaign for the Super Eagles defender, whose earlier fitness problems had cast serious doubt over his place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite those concerns, the 24-year-old made the final 28-man squad and featured in three matches as the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal in Morocco.

However, the injury has now resurfaced at club level. Ogbu was forced off shortly after the hour mark against Pafos, moments after the Cypriot side took a 2–1 lead.

The situation is particularly worrying given that a similar hamstring problem previously ruled him out for three months, with this recurrence raising fresh concerns over his availability in the coming weeks.
