Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has opened up on the high standards and intense work ethic of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle, describing the Malian tactician as one of the most demanding managers he has worked with.

Speaking on the team’s preparations at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Besiktas midfielder revealed that Chelle’s demands extend beyond activities on the pitch to every aspect of the players’ professional lives.

“Our coach Eric Chelle is so demanding. I’ve never seen a coach as demanding,” Ndidi said. “Not just on the field but off it, even down to how we eat.”

Despite the strict approach, Ndidi made it clear that the atmosphere within the Super Eagles camp remains positive, noting that the coach maintains a strong relationship with his players.

“He’s a nice guy and he connects with his players, but when it is time for the job, he doesn’t joke,” the Super Eagles skipper added.

Chelle was appointed with a clear mandate to restore discipline, structure and competitiveness to the national team, and Ndidi’s comments suggest the coach is fully committed to enforcing professionalism as Nigeria chase success at AFCON 2025.

The Super Eagles have shown improved organization and intensity under Chelle’s guidance, with players responding to his demanding methods as they continue their campaign in Morocco.
